Kareem Abdul-Jabbar UCLA Guitar
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was already one of my all-time favorite basketball players, but First Officer Roger Murdoch boosted him even higher!
Ickey Woods Signed Mini Helmet
Second coolest name in Cincinnati Bengals history. I'm still a bit partial to Boobie Clark. Ickey had a great rookie season in 1988, helping the Bengals to Super Bowl XXIII. He was best known for his "Ickey Shuffle" dance after each of his touchdowns, and even brought the shuffle back decades later in GEICO commercials ("Get some cold cuts, get some cold cuts..."). He tore his ACL early in his second season and was out of football by the time he was 26. I got to talk with Ickey for a few minutes when he was in Tampa for the 2009 Super Bowl. Really friendly and funny guy!
Bill Dickey
Do you know who the Yankees retired number 8 in honor of? If you said Yogi Berra, you are right. If you said Bill Dickey you are also right. If you named both, you get extra credit! (As if that will improve your life in any way...)
Bill Dickey played 16 years as a New York Yankee, then at 37 years old he joined the Navy during World War II, and two years later returned to the Yankees as a player-manager for a year. In his 17 years as a player he was an All-Star 11 times and won eight World Series rings. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954. He was also in the movie Pride of the Yankees where he knocked out one of his teammates for criticizing Lou Gehrig. I can relate. We've all had teammates in need of some punching. (Just kidding. Don't punch your teammates.)
This bust was issued by the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1963 and there are 20 players in the set.
Eppa Rixey Postcard
Hall of Famer who played for my favorite team and is from the town I live in now. Culpeper, Virginia. There's a cool sign in front of his childhood home outlining some of his accomplishments, including the fact that he earned a Master's Degree from the University of Virginia and won 266 games in the Major Leagues.
Houston Oilers Mug
The Houston Oilers were an original member of the American Football League back in 1960 and were absorbed into the NFL for the 1970 season. They moved to Memphis in 1997 and Nashville in 1998 and played as the Tennessee Oilers those two years. After that they changed their color scheme and became the Tennessee Titans.
Washington Capitals Beer Can
Ian Rush Carlsberg Beer Can
I had to look up who Ian Rush is. Seems he was a really good soccer player. I'm not a big fan of soccer, but the can looks cool, so I kept it.
